Judith Nitsch, P.E., LEED AP, president of Judith Nitsch Engineering, Inc., is featured in the new book Changing Our World: True Stories of Women Engineers. Written by Sybil Hatch and published by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Changing Our World was launched during the 2006 Engineers Week as a way to celebrate the contributions of women engineers to modern life. The book documents the true stories of 238 inspirational women engineers, including Nitsch. Based in Boston, Judith Nitsch Engineering, Inc. (www.jnei.com), is a civil engineering, land surveying, traffic/transportation engineering, and planning firm that provides services on private development and public buildings and infrastructure projects up and down the East Coast. Karen O. Courtney, AIA, FSMPS, has been named to a two-year term to the board of directors of the Construction Writers Association. Courtney is director of marketing and a senior associate at BSALifeStructures. The Construction Writers Association is a group of nearly 300 professional journalists, publicists, photographers, and other communicators in the construction industry that works to promote and improve construction communications through award programs, best-practice examples, opportunities for networking, education, recognition, and fellowship. BSA LifeStructures (www.bsalifestructures.com), with offices in Indianapolis and Chicago, is a national leader in designing healthcare, education, research, and technology facilities. Courtney is a member of SMPS Indiana.

Jean R. Valence, FSMPS, was recognized by the American Institute of Architects as an Honorary AIA Member during its June conference in Los Angeles. Honorary membership, one of the highest honors the AIA can bestow upon a person outside the profession of architecture, is given to recognize outstanding contributions to the architectural profession and to AIA. Valence is a principal and vice president of Cambridge, MA-based SMMA, a Fellow of SMPS, and the 2001 recipient of the SMPS National Marketing Achievement Award. She is also a founding member of SMPS Boston. Debra A. Lupton, AIA, chief executive officer of TLC Engineering for Architecture of Orlando, FL, is the recipient of the Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects' Presidential Award for her lead role in successfully negotiating changes to the Department of Management Services' Fee Guidelines. Debra shares the award with Richard J. Logan, AIA, president of MPA Architects of West Palm Beach. TLC (www.tlc-engineers.com) is one of the largest consulting engineering firms in the Southeast, with 9 offices and 380 employees.
