Members Approve Emeritus Membership Status
An Emeritus membership category has been added to the Society to allow retired members to maintain their ties and continue to contribute to SMPS and the profession. To be eligible for Emeritus status, an individual must have been an active regular member for at least 15 years and must be retired.

Emeritus status will allow qualified members to continue their association with SMPS but without voting privileges or eligibility to hold elected office. The dues for emeritus membership are $30 annually.

Because membership categories are established by the Society’s bylaws, a formal amendment to the bylaws was required to add this emeritus category. In a ballot placed before the membership in May 2005, the amendment was accepted by a wide majority.
