Copyright Law, Diversification Are Topics of Upcoming Webinars
The next program in the National Webinar Series is “The Fundamentals of Copyright Law: Understanding What You Need to Know,” scheduled for Tuesday, June 28, 2-3:30 pm (ET).

Do you fully understand the “nuts and bolts” of copyright law? If you’re not completely aware of these regulations, or if you don’t know the difference between a copyright and a trademark, this webinar will help you understand more about these issues and how to protect your firm and its materials from copyright infringement.

Participants will get up to speed on copyrights and obtain foundational information that informed marketers need to know. Topics to be covered by the expert panel include:

  • gaining an understanding of what a copyright is, why it is important, how it relates to the marketer’s job, and who is responsible for researching it
  • reviewing the importance of contracts and intellectual property
  • examining ways to protect technical documents, plans, proposals, marketing materials, etc.
  • discovering important copyright issues relating to web sites and their design and linking materials between web sites
  • understanding proper consent for the use of photographic images, client quotes from reference letters, interviews, and surveys
  • exploring how to properly use sound recordings, videotape productions, software licenses, and more.

The panel of experts scheduled to speak includes:

  • Jason A. Aquilino, Esq., Copyright, Unfair Trade and Entertainment, Venable, LLP
  • Marilyn Coon, CPSM, Managing Member, Barker Penman LLC
  • Connie Crow, CPSM, Marketing Coordinator, E&A Consulting Group.

Jason A. Aquilino, Esq., is an Associate with Venable, LLP, where he counsels and litigates in the fields of copyright, licensing, trademark, unfair competition, art, intellectual property, e-commerce, software, online issues, entertainment, media, and literary law. Aquilino works within the firm’s Copyright and Unfair Trade Group, as well as with the Trademark and Intellectual Property groups. He has an excellent working knowledge of the Copyright Act, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Lanham Act, and the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act.

Marilyn Coon, CPSM, of Barker Penman LLC, has worked in marketing, communications, and business development for more than 20 years. She has directed the marketing efforts for companies in diverse industries including biotechnology, architecture, engineering, specialized software development, leisure, and broadcasting.

Connie Crow, CPSM, Marketing Coordinator for E&A Consulting Group Inc., has worked in public relations and marketing for 35 years, with nearly 27 years in telecommunications at the corporate level and now 8 years in the A/E/C industry. Her corporate work with marketing and branding large business products for US WEST gave her many insights into the intricacies of copyright and trademark law—insights she brings to the A/E/C arena.
