What We Have Is Right Now
Ron Worth, FSMPS, CPSM, FAIC, CPC
A new year is here, and we’re gearing up for what we expect to be an exciting and challenging 12 months.
I’ve had several calls recently from professionals who bemoan the “Good Old Days.” A friend, Dave Woody of Words from Woody fame, has stated this well for those of you who are waiting for a return to those days: “Wake up! It ain’t coming,” not today, not next week, not next year. What we have…is right now. SMPS is doing all it can to prepare a series of opportunities for you to get the skills you need to meet the demands that you will face in 2005. As ENR recently reported, “The industry changes are fundamental…and you must realize that change is upon us, that it is not necessarily an enemy and may be converted into an ally if it is spotted soon enough and acted upon.”
In this newsletter in information on several chances for you to get started to shift your effort toward proactively improving your current situation, working on backlog, or building your customer base. These educational and networking events will be held around the country. The format varies and allows you to attend personally, send some of your key team members, or sit in one of the exceptional webinars while having lunch in your office.
Get involved with your local chapter: Volunteer to help with a committee or write down in your day-timer or PDA the upcoming dates and times for local chapter meetings and make an effort to attend. Ask your local chapter board members, the National Board members, or National staff what we can do to help you and your company be more successful this year. You are surrounded with dedicated professionals who will work with you to find solutions to your problems. Let us help you.
Reassess your goals, looking at the strategies and tactics you have available to you. Chose a couple of the ideas above and do them. The one option you don’t have is to do nothing. Remember, together, there is very little we cannot achieve.
Happy New Year!
