Members Invited to Contribute to ENR Book on Construction Lore
"Engineering News-Record" is soliciting facts and anecdotes for a new book entitled "More Construction Facts: The Sourcebook of Statistics, Records and Resources," featuring construction records and statistics, such as the largest pieces of construction equipment, the tallest building ever moved, the lowest-temperature concrete pour.

The book will include write-ups of notable equipment innovators and descriptions of pie-in-the-sky projects that may never be realized (such as the Bering Strait Bridge). It will also contain market and labor statistics, and a directory of professional associations, unions, and government officials.

SMPS members are invited to submit relevant statistics and information relating to the following sections of the book:

1. Construction Heroes: Do you know of any instances when someone exhibited physical courage in connection with a construction project? ENR is looking for people who may have acted to save a fellow worker's life in a dangerous situation, or persisted in the face of a violent threat.

2. Trailblazing Women in the Construction Industry: ENR is identifying women throughout history who did something of national significance in the industry—women who managed major projects, founded or led good-sized companies, led professional associations, were recognized authorities, managed federal- or state-level government agencies, were influential lobbyists or advocates.

3. Construction Lore: ENR is looking for notable quotes, sayings, and anecdotes.

5. Project Nicknames: We are all familiar with Boston's "Big Dig." ENR wants to know about other projects with interesting names.

If you contribute and your information is used in the book, you will be recognized by the editors. The book will be published by ENR in November, and copies will be sent to all ENR subscribers. Additional copies will be available by mail order from ENR.
