Bylaws Amendment Approved by Members
The proposed bylaws amendment put before the SMPS membership in May was approved by a substantial majority of the approximately 1,000 members who responded.
During the SMPS National Board election this year, the Nominations and Elections Committee realized that the bylaws of the Society contained an out-dated provision relating to the eligibility of candidates for the Fellows Delegate seat on the Board. At a spring meeting, the Board of Directors voted to recommend amending the bylaws to update the applicable provisions.
Procedures for amending the bylaws require that changes recommended by the Board be ratified by a vote of the members. To be approved, at least 100 members in good standing must vote by returning a signed ballot form, and a majority (more than 50%) of the eligible members returning ballots must approve of the proposed amendments.
As amended, this bylaws provision now reads: [Board of Directors/Qualifications] Section 4.1.7. To be eligible for election as Fellows Delegate, the individual must hold the Fellows title.
